The objective was to create a special collector's edition DVD set of a movie of a personal choice. Harold and Maude was my choice because it is very thought-provoking, quirky, beautiful, and funny — it is undoubtedly my all-time favorite movie.
Approach
For this project, I decide off one of many themes of the movie, death. I wanted to visualize how Maude's perspective on life and death is different from that of Harold's and how Harold's pessimistic approach on life gets positively changed as he meets Maude.
Execution
I built a casket out of wood and hand painted all the sunflowers on the surface. I also included a movie book I did for Typography II class, to add more to this special edition. The objective for the Typography II project was to create an experimental type book using a movie script. The book was hand-bound in case binding, and the illustrations were done in watercolor.
